The Haussegen describes a good atmosphere at home. If everybody is nice and peaceful the Haussegen is fine. If there is a big fight in the family the Haussegen is crooked, which means he is gone, broken, kaputt.

In German they say: The Haussegen hangs not straigt (crooked).

Since Mum knows about Dads affair the Haussegen is crooked.
